The Choral Music Graduate Program at SFASU

Dr. Tod Fish successfully completed his doctor of musical arts in choral conducting from the University of Kansas in 2009. He is the associate director of choral activities at the Stephen F. Austin State University (SFASU). Dr. Tod Fish teaches several courses including Italian Lyric Diction, Opera Chorus, and Choral Repertoire while acting as the student teaching supervisor for all students majoring in choral music education.

Choral music education is one of four concentrations in the master of music degree offered at SFASU. It is available on campus and as an online degree. This graduate track consists of 36 class hours covering topics such as music theory, music history, and psychology of music.

The program is designed to prepare master’s students for their future career as music teachers, whether they pursue positions in public schools or colleges. Additionally, successful graduates also gain skills related to educational research. Graduate students are required to attend a music research seminar which highlights research methods, statistical analysis, and classroom teaching skills.
